Ingredients
  

Cake Batter

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour sifted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup water boiling
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs room temperature
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Chocolate Frosting

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a sheet pan.
  • In a large bowl, mix flour and sugar.
  • In a saucepan, bring butter, water, and cocoa powder to a boil. Pour over dry ingredients and mix well.
  • Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  • Pour into sheet pan and bake for 20 minutes.
  • For the frosting, melt butter and cocoa in a saucepan. Stir in milk, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Pour over warm cake.

Notes

Top with chopped pecans or walnuts for added texture and flavor!
