Ingredients
  

Sweet Potatoes

  • 4 medium sweet potatoes peeled and sliced into 1/2-inch rounds

Syrup Mixture

  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup butter melted
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Optional Toppings

  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1 cup marshmallows for topping
  • 1 tsp orange zest or lemon zest

Instructions
 

  • Peel the sweet potatoes and slice them into 1/2-inch rounds.
  • In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, maple syrup, melted butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt over medium heat. Stir until smooth.
  • Arrange the sliced sweet potatoes in a baking dish and pour the syrup mixture over them, ensuring each piece is coated.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil, baste the yams with the syrup, and bake for an additional 15 minutes until tender and caramelized.
  • Optional: Sprinkle with chopped pecans or walnuts, add marshmallows, and bake for an extra 5 minutes until melted.
  • Garnish with orange or lemon zest before serving.

Notes

Baste regularly while baking to keep the yams moist and flavorful. Adjust sweetness by adding more butter or a splash of citrus juice if needed.
