Tipo 00 or all-purpose flour
1 1/2
cups
warm water
2
tsp
salt
2
tsp
sugar
2 1/4
tsp
active dry yeast
or 1 packet
2
tbsp
olive oil
optional, for extra softness
Instructions
Dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and olive oil, mixing until a rough dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes until smooth and slightly tacky.
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours, until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let rise for another 30–45 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Score the top of the loaf and bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
Let cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing.
Notes
For a crispier crust, place a small pan of hot water in the oven during baking.
