This 3-ingredient biscuit recipe is simple, quick, and foolproof. With just self-rising flour, butter, and buttermilk, you can create tender, flaky biscuits that are perfect for any meal.
Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, combine self-rising flour and cold, cubed butter. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Slowly pour in the buttermilk and stir gently until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface. Pat it into a rectangle and fold it over itself 2–3 times to create layers. Roll it out to about ½-inch thickness.
Use a biscuit cutter to cut out rounds. Place the biscuits close together on the baking sheet for a higher rise.
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown. Remove from oven and brush with melted butter (optional). Serve warm.
Notes
For extra flaky layers, fold the dough over itself several times before cutting. You can also freeze the cut dough and bake straight from frozen.
